Orchestral Flute
Institute

A master class in orchestral performing

The Orchestral Flute Institute meets for one week in July. Email for exact dates. piper@little-piper.com O.F.I. classes typically meet from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Orchestral Playing
Classes primarily involve group playing of major orchestral works, as well as individual assignments and performance. Lectures and demonstrations include the art of ensemble orchestral playing, with emphasis on style, intonation, special fingerings, and proper execution of dynamics. This class looks at the individual works as a whole, not simply the famous solo passages.

Mock Auditions
Classes also cover the important art of auditioning for orchestral work. A mock audition (behind the screen) will be held on the final day of the Institute. All are encouraged, but not required, to participate in this mock audition.

Reasonable Housing & Food
All O.F.I. classes are held on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.

Applicants should present a short resume of advanced flute study and/or professional playing experience to be accepted. Please list teachers and current repertoire in the resume. Email to piper@little-piper.com or mail to OFI at P.O. Box 344, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48303.
